Lessons are held at a private facility in College Heights, Prince George. The exact address is provided to clients before they book. New clients are contacted 2 or 3 days prior to their first lesson with all day-of details.
We teach a variety of days and hours throughout the week, year-round. Lessons are booked individually, so there is no maximum or minimum number of lessons required per month. Please keep in mind that if a swimmer becomes dormant (does not book) for a few months, they will be contacted to confirm interest, before their spot is offered to another swimmer. Clients automatically become inactive clients after one (1) year without booked lessons.
No, you cannot reserve the same date and time each week. Lessons are not consistently offered on the same day or time each week.
KD Courses prides themselves on a swimmer focused atmosphere, and the ability to cater to each individuals’ needs. The first few lessons are generally gentler and focus on building trust. As time goes on, our teaching style is certainly more skill and survival focused, with a deliberate effort to push swimmers just past their comfort zone. Our goal is for swimmers to progress, improve, and stay safe in and around the water!
Siblings can certainly be in the same lesson. We recommend that each swimmer is of roughly the same ability, or that the older sibling can take direction and practice independently throughout the lesson. Please contact us as we can evaluate suitability on a case-by-case basis.
Yes, friends and families can combine for the same lesson. There is a maximum of 4 students per lesson. We recommend that each swimmer is of roughly the same ability, or one or more (older) students can take direction and practice independently throughout the lesson. Please contact us as we can evaluate suitability on a case-by-case basis.
No, payment is due at time of booking. We currently accept e-transfer.
Yes, you can book a 1-hour lesson, which can be beneficial for swimmers in higher levels (Swimmer 4+). Please book two back-to-back 30-minute lessons. We do not currently recommend longer lessons for younger swimmers.
Thanks for your interest! Your place on the waitlist is maintained per the date of your inquiry. Swimmers with more open availability may have an easier time being offered a lesson. For example, our earlier afternoon and later afternoon lessons are often more available than our after-school afternoon lessons . We contact each waitlisted swimmer when they are near the top of the list, and again when lessons become available.
Waitlisted swimmers at the top of our list are offered available or cancellation lessons as they become available. After your first lesson with us, the instructor and family can determine suitability, and determine if more lessons are required and what the process for booking is moving forward.
Booking for the next month opens on the 15th of the month prior ex. August booking opens July 15.
Regular clients are contacted with an assigned 15-minute booking window. Lessons booked prior to the assigned slot will be cancelled to maintain equity. If you cannot log on at your assigned time, lessons can still be booked later, there may just be less available. Please contact us first if the time assigned does not work for you.
If booking multiple lessons at the same time, one e-transfer can be sent for the total amount owing. For example, if on the 15th of the month, you book 3 lessons for the following month (one swimmer), you can send $126 in one transfer. Please include the name of swimmer and dates of lessons in the e-transfer notes.
The golden question! It’s difficult to say, as each swimmer varies greatly in their skills and progress timeframe. Often we see progress quite quickly initially, especially in the small private lesson setting. The Swim for Life® program has 6 levels, designed to be taken from ages 5-12. After your first lesson, our instructors will develop a plan with you and your swimmer that meets your goals from lessons.
Yes! We offer the Lifesaving Society’s Swim for Life® program.
Swimmers 6 months-3 years can participate in our Parent & Tot Program. Parent participation (in water) is required. Secure swim diapers required.
Swimmers 3-5 years old can participate in our Preschool Program.
Swimmers 5-12 years old can participate in the Swimmer Program.
The Swim for Life® evaluation tools are used throughout the province, and also have YMCA program equivalents.
No, that is not an issue! During your first lesson with us, swimmers are screened to evaluate their current ability. From there, our instructors are able to develop a plan with you and your swimmer that meets your goals from lessons. The Lifesaving Society notes the course time of each level as 4-5 hours until Level 2, and 6-7.5-hours for Levels 3-6.
5 years old is a transition marker between Preschool and Swimmer. It is up to the parent and instructor which the swimmer is better suited for until they turn 6. Once a swimmer is 6 years old, they begin the Swimmer program.
If a swimmer is moving to the Swimmer Program and has passed Octopus, Crab, or Orca, they will be in Swimmer 1.
If a swimmer has passed Sea Lion or Narwhal, they will be in Swimmer 2.
